Pornography - my reaction

Well... I did not expect that.

I was prepared for a strange play, after previously working on the play Pomona by Alistair MacDowell for my acting module but this is different. There was some information about the play that I knew that I didn't actually state in my previous blog post, one being that it wasn't actually about pornography (kind of obvious) and that it was about a terrorist attack in London (in 2005, not 2012 but England getting the Olympics gig was mentioned throughout). However this grotesque account of various London citizens and their daily lives around the time and actual day of the attack, the survivors, did not entice me or excite me when considering performance. I was instead repulsed and confused, especially in the final scene, the only scene I thought fit the subject matter that completely clashed with the rest of the play. Mentions of incest and teacher student fantasies made me struggle to find the tone of the play. A specific scene midway through also seemed to come from someone who planted the bomb on the day of the attack and he seemed one of the most appealing out of the suggested characters. Was this deliberate? I can't say and especially when comparing to the touching tribute to the victims in the last scene. Overall I am disappointed and don't know what to make of this play. I will conduct further research and perhaps read this play again (if I can face it) in search of a meaning to tie the various stories together in order to give me a eureka moment that will help me when creating a monologue from this script.

Despite all this, I recommend for those who like out the box, confusing and grotesque plays to give this script a read. You may understand and enjoy it more than I did and I am hoping that with research I will be far more excited to explore it. But otherwise...

I am just confused.
